The Council aims to make this website accessible to all users and as a result follows certain standards and Government guidelines to ensure that this site can be used as effectively and easily as possible by everyone.
The site has been designed to conform to the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Web Accessibility Initiative's 'AA' standard. You can find details about this standard using this link to the World Wide Web Consortium website (external link)
In addition most of the webpages are designed to be used with screenreaders, so that visually impaired users can easily access the content and navigate the site and as a result every page has a set of easy access keys.
Text Size
If you find the text size on this website is too small or too large for you to read comfortably, you can change the size of the text via your browser. Find out more under Help with vieiwing the website or you can use the bigger text option on the right hand menu.
Text Only
A Text Only version of the website which does not show images, although you will still be able to see any text associated with the image, is available. The "text only" version website: loads more quickly; is easier to copy from and is compatible with Screen Readers for people with visual impairments
External Links
We no longer open external links in a new window. While this is often seen as the more logical and accessible way of providing links to external sites, recent research - supported by the W3C - has shown opening extra windows for new content can actually be more disorientating.
As a result, we have taken the decision to open external links in the same browser - although all links will clearly be marked as external.
